Cockroach Control

There are a few things you need to keep in mind about cockroaches in Henderson. If you’ve ever had a roach infestation, you would probably not wish it on your worst enemy. They reproduce fast and can be seriously hard to get rid of. Cockroaches live in damp areas around and inside homes, staying in cracks and crevices while it’s light outside. As the light fades, they move swiftly to scout, find food and water, and breed.  If you are seeing roaches give Six Brothers Pest Control a call today!

Feeding Habits

Cockroaches are like mini, walking dumpsters. They can intake and consume almost anything, which makes them voracious feeders and able to withstand traumatic events. They will eat hair, paper, waste, food particles, garbage, small bugs, crumbs, and almost any other small item you can think of.

Types of Roaches in Henderson

Not all cockroaches are as nasty as others. Here are a few in the area that you may be able to identify, and hopefully never allow into your home.

American cockroach (Periplaneta americana)

The American Cockroach is a common roach type here in Henderson, and can get quite large in size. They are reddish brown and are usually what people picture in their minds when they think of cockroaches.

German cockroach (Blattella germanica)

German Cockroaches are arguably the worst type of cockroach in the area. They breed quicker than other breeds and are the hardest to get rid of. They are a bit smaller than the American Cockroach, which means they can hide better and live undetected in furniture, in basements, drawers, couches, etc. This is why it’s probably a bad idea to take free or cheap furniture from people who are getting rid of it on the street. If just a few cockroaches are living in there, it could mean months of headache trying to eliminate them. They are light brown, and adult roaches sport wings and dark stripes down their backs. If you see roaches in the kitchen, they could be German Cockroaches. They hide in cupboards and drawers and are hardy creatures, thought to be resistant to some common insecticides.

Brownbanded cockroach (Supella longipalpa)

Brownbanded Cockroaches are easier to identify than other species because of their elongated bodies, light tan color, and the thick, dark brown stripes running across their bodies. Unlike other roach types, Brownbanded cockroaches can live almost anywhere in your home, not just the kitchen or other moist damp areas. They could be behind picture frames, in the walls, attic, inside closets, and in bedrooms and living rooms. They spread out more than the cluster-happy German Roaches.

Wood cockroach (Parcoblatta spp)

To which their name eludes, wood roaches are outside insects that love any wooded areas. They occasionally are found indoors, but not in such numbers as others, as well as if the home is made from wood siding.

Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis)

The Oriental Cockroach is often mistaken for a large beetle. They are dark brown to shiny black and only adult males have wings, though short. They prefer damp areas, which means that they congregate in bathrooms, near leaks, around the plumbing, and in basements.
